Rising dangers necessitate more spending. According to a recent study, IT leaders are concerned about the security they presently have in place to guard against cyberattacks. To manage their system security businesses are prepared to spend money to improve their defenses.

The annual Veeam Data Protection Trends Report polled over 4,000 IT leaders and people in the cybersecurity sector at businesses. The report discovered that the adoption of hybrid working has contributed to this sense of discomfort.

It underlined how new issues are appearing as businesses go to cloud storage online backup and cloud vps server hosting providers. Additionally, it is causing them to increase their IT expenses in response.

‘Gaps’ that must be filled

While establishing priorities for the rest of the year, the study indicated that IT executives intended to emphasize backup solutions. As well as ensuring that Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) are as safe as their data center workloads.

The majority of businesses believed there was a gap between what they needed and what their IT teams could provide. Moreover, 82% of respondents reported an ‘availability gap’ between the requested and actual rates of recovering stored data.

Almost 80% of organizations also expressed concern about a “protection gap.” There are too many possible data losses for IT departments to securely manage regularly.

Such gaps are the reason why more than half of the polled organizations wanted to change their protection this year. In addition, they justify increased data protection spending, which 85% of organizations anticipate will rise by 8.3% on average. This is significantly higher than in other areas of IT spending.

According to recent events, such protection is desperately needed. Since 2020, cyberattacks, particularly ransomware, have been the most disruptive to businesses’ systems. In Veeam’s previous study, 76% of respondents claimed they had been hit at least once in the preceding year.

Data recovery was critical to them because they were able to recover just 55% of stolen data. For organizations, the key focus for protection solutions is the “integration of data protection within a cyber readiness plan”.

In addition to the immediate harm, ransomware attacks sap the resources and finances of IT teams. This compels businesses to postpone updates to the organization’s digital landscape to focus on recovery operations after a cyberattack.

Conclusion

Containers such as Kubernettes are also becoming more popular. Over 50% of respondents are using them, and 40% plan to. According to the research, data protection strategy discrepancies are similar to those observed among early adopters of SaaS five years ago or virtualization 15 years ago.

The problem is that just the storage is protected, but an overall strategy for safeguarding workloads is ignored. According to the survey, this is common behavior after the adoption of new platforms.

Veeam CTO Danny Allan stated that Legacy backup techniques will not meet current workloads. From IaaS and SaaS to containers, this results in delayed recovery for the business when it is most needed.

This is what IT leaders are thinking about when they examine their cyber resilience plan. They require Modern Data Security.
