How to See How Much Life Is Left in Your iPhone Battery

Apple has been chastised in the past for a slew of battery issues, and there are few modern annoyances more irritating than being unable to use your phone for more than a few minutes without needing to charge it. It’s therefore useful to know how much capacity and performance your iPhone battery has. And when it comes to custom applications one always consults mobile app development company.

The lithium-ion batteries in your devices, according to Apple, are meant to last up to 500 full charging cycles at up to 80% capacity. You’ll get fewer hours of use before you have to charge the battery as its capacity decreases. Batteries deteriorate naturally with time, and they don’t run at 100% for very long (and may never do so after you start using your device).

We’ve already covered how to check the battery life of your iPhone, which can be found in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. This will show you the current capacity of your battery in comparison to when it was new, as well as alternatives for improving battery performance.

But you could also be curious about how many times you’ve charged your phone, as this might give you an idea of how much life is left in your battery. Performance decreases may make more sense if you’ve reached 500 full charges. There’s an easy method to accomplish this, and it’s in your device’s settings (h/t ZDNet).

How to check the status of your iPhone’s charging

  1. To access Analytics & Improvements, go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvements.
  1. Toggle the Share iPhone Analytics option on or off (or Share iPhone and Watch Analytics if you have an Apple Watch). This should be enabled by default, but if it isn’t, you’ll have to wait for data to compile for a few days before proceeding.
  1. Select the most current date available by tapping Analytics Data and scrolling to items that begin with “log-aggregated.”
  1. You may either browse (there’s a lot of data to go through) or copy and paste the report text into a text editor or document that you can manually search from here. The number next to this item indicates how many charging cycles your battery has experienced.

It’s important to note that a reading of 500 does not always indicate that your battery is dead and has to be replaced. My record indicates 517 charging cycles completed, and my maximum capacity remains at 88 percent.

It’s also helpful to know that a charging cycle doesn’t charge your battery from zero to 100 all at once, so you don’t have to wait until it’s entirely dead before charging it. Even if you charge it up in between, a charge cycle is defined as when 100 percent of your capacity is depleted.
