According to a new study cloud-based email favors over on-premises alternatives. Google Workspace is the most secure cloud-based email solution available.

Over four years, At-Bay reviewed data from around 40,000 individual SMB policyholders. They discovered that organizations that utilized cloud-based email products reported “substantially fewer” security issues. On the other hand, businesses that used on-premises email infrastructure faced security issues.

According to reports, Google Workspace users experienced 40% fewer security issues than the category average.

Additionally, Mimecast was the platform with the least number of security vulnerabilities affecting email, according to the study.

Customers that use Mimecast had 22% fewer problems than the average, Moreover, the platform was 53% more successful at preventing mishaps than the unidentified worst performer.

However, Sophos, Intermedia, Appriver, and Proofpoint were all considered to be operating well during this span.

All of this caused At-GM Bay’s of Security Services, Adam Tyra, to propose enterprises move to a cloud-based email solution. They suggested this action should be taken as soon as possible and definitely before current in-use systems approach end-of-life status.

They stated there are costs associated with cloud migration such as financial and temporary productivity losses. However, those expenses are dwarfed by the benefit of risk reduction realized from the transition.

Citing the report’s advantages, he also stated that firms should seriously consider installing a market-leading email security solution.

Tyra said that those who use Microsoft 365 should consider an add-on email security solution. Furthermore, they added “Based on our data and knowledge, the best solutions are Microsoft’s Defender. It is the product that offers email security, not the product that provides endpoint protection.
